ABSTRACT

Introduction: Moringa oleifera Lam. (moringa) is one of the best known species. It is a tree with multiple benefits and its leaves accumulate high contents of phenolic compounds.
Objective: To characterize phytochemically of the Supergenius, Plain y Criolla ecotypes and identify the presence of isoquercetin in leaves and the ethanolic extract 70% v/v of M. oleifera.
Methods: The phytochemical characterization was performed by the classical methodology of fractionation with solvents of different polarity (n-hexane, ethanol and water) described by Miranda. The detection and quantification of isoquercetin was by thin layer chromatography and high pressure liquid chromatography.
Results: Phytochemical screening showed the presence of flavonoids, oils and fats, triterpenes/steroids, reducing sugars, phenols and tannins. No saponins, cardiotonic glycosides, sterols, quinones, resins, lactones and coumarins were detected in any of the ecotypes. The evaluation confirmed the presence of phenolic compounds and the presence of isoquercetin by thin layer chromatography and high-pressure liquid chromatography in Moringa oleifera leaves.
Conclusions: It was demonstrated that the leaves of the moringa ecotypes called Plain, Supergenius and Criolla present similarity in the chemical compounds and the presence of isoquercetin in the leaves and the ethanolic extract 70 % v / v were exposed.
