ABSTRACT

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract that can affect any part of the digestive system, from the mouth to the anus. The pathogenesis of the disease involves a combination of genetic, environmental, and immunological factors that lead to chronic inflammation and damage to intestinal tissue. Symptoms can vary and can include abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss, and fatigue. Diagnosis is made using a combination of diagnostic tools and tests, such as colonoscopy, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Treatment focuses on symptom control and may include immunosuppressive drugs, diet and lifestyle changes, and in some cases, surgery. The prognosis can vary, and complications can include intestinal obstruction, fistulas, abscesses, and bowel cancer. Continued research is important to improve the understanding and treatment of Crohn's disease.
