ABSTRACT
The basis of humanity and its construction as a species is summarized in a phrase by Dale Turnerturner "The error of the past is the wisdom and success of the future". Spine surgery is one of the most complex areas of medicine, yet it is one of the areas that gives the greatest satisfaction as a surgeon by allowing lives to be changed after surgery which can be performed with great safety, but getting to this point was not easy, The development has been long and in this paper we will try to recall a little of this process, both in world history and national history, since there is little information on how this branch has developed in our country. Joseph Joubert expressed "History must be above all the painting of a time, the portrait of an epoch. When it is limited to being the portrait of a man or the painting of a life, it is only half-history", for which the authors of this work note the importance of remembering the names of the great surgeons and the evolution through the ages that have led us to be what we are today, since we faithfully believe that history is the science that can teach humanity the most, it can recall from our birth as a species to our great mistakes or successes as humanity; so medicine is no exception in terms of the importance of historical recounting. This memorial of spine surgery will allow us to thank and praise the great masters who have built this guild, those who have given their lives and time for this work to humanity, that history will allow them to be remembered with the greatness they deserve, and understand what is the future of our specialty, because a great proverb of our culture reminds us that to know where we are going we must know where we come from, so giving the opportunity to our colleagues to soak up the historical context will increase the possibility of growing as a guild.
