ABSTRACT

The retroauricular revolving door island flap, initially described in the 1970s and later modified in the 1990s, represents a myocutaneous flap obtained from the auriculo-mastoid region, which is used to repair defects of the concha and nearby areas of the auricula, involving (or not) the underlying cartilage, to obtain adequate results from both the oncological and cosmetic point of view. It is considered a first-choice technique for the reconstruction of these defects and has shown superiority to other reconstruction options. We present the results achieved from five cases of patients with basal cell carcinoma in the auricular concha and surrounding areas. The relevance of knowing and correctly applying this technique by the dermatologic surgeon is highlighted.
