ABSTRACT

The clinical practice guidelines to manage acute lower back pain with recommendations for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures applicable in primary-care settings were developed through a systematic search and review of the literature, which was classified according to the level of evidence included in the publications. It highlights early detection of alarm signs that prompt patient referral to specialized care. The guidelines facilitate appropriate use of ancillary diagnostic procedures and address both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment, particularly preventive measures such as posture, hygiene, and therapeutic exercises.
