ABSTRACT

The aim of this contribution is to understand the experiences of young adults regarding their feelings and emotions during the grieving process after the death of a family member due to Covid- 19. This study has a qualitative and interpretative approach, which sought to deepen the phenomenon, proposing open and emergent designs from the globality and contextualization. It was approached from the phenomenological method, which allowed finding the relationship between objectivity and subjectivity, which is present in every moment of human experience and trying to understand these stories from the value, normative, practical perspective and from the humanist current. Four in-depth interviews were conducted with young adults between 20 and 24 years of age, in which three women and one man participated, all residents of Toluca city and surrounding municipalities. After the recovery and analysis of the discourses of the interviewees, we obtained as a result of coping with death, feelings and emotions as a central category, as well as nine subcategories: denial, avoidance, anger, guilt, sadness, hope, tranquility, fear and worry. The above, after living a significant episode that marks the life history of young people who lose a family member due to COVID-19. Finally, it is concluded that grief is a path with an infinite number of curves and returns, in which people do not remain static at a single point, and that in addition, they can experience emotions and feelings one after the other, revealing the actions of people to understand that human beings not only respond instantaneously to external stimuli, but rather, beyond adapting, they connect with their subjectivity to give space to experience unpleasant emotions such as fear, sadness, guilt, anger or worry, but also others that help them to re-signify what has happened, as is the case of tranquility.
