ABSTRACT
Introduction: the spinal societies have the objective of promoting education, research and the exchange of knowledge related to spinal pathology among its members. To date there are no studies that compare whether these objectives are carried out and whether there is any society that offers greater benefits compared to another. Being a Mexican spinal surgeon, specifically AMCICO will be compared with other societies, which may open a window of opportunity to improve our association. Objective: analyze the benefits offered to spine surgeons by various spine societies, focusing on management, education and research aspects, making reference to our Asociación Mexicana de Cirujanos de Columna (AMCICO). Material and methods: values were attributed to the benefits granted by the societies, focusing on management, education and research. Data obtained from the website of the following spine societies were analyzed: AMCICO, North American Spine Society (NASS), Eurospine, AOSpine, Ibero-Latin American Spine Society (SILACO), Brazilian Spine Society (SBC), Argentine Society of Spinal Column Pathology (SAPCV) and Colombian Column Society (SOCCOL). A statistical analysis was performed with ANOVA using the Turkey's HSD procedure, with a confidence value of p < 0.05. Results: in the management aspect, NASS (11) shows a significant difference of 7 points compared to AMCICO (4), followed by Eurospine (8) and AOSpine (6) (f-ratio of 3.38462, p = 0.01514). In education benefits, AOSpine (15) has a difference of 9 points with AMCICO (2), followed by Eurospine (11) and NASS (9) (f-ratio 15.26, p < 0.00001). In research and editorial, AMCICO had a score of 2, compared to AOSpine and Eurospine with 8 points and NASS with 6 points (f-ratio 12.41936, p < 0.00001). There was no statistical difference in any of the 3 assessments between AMCICO, SILACO, SBC, SAPCV, and SOCCOL. Conclusions: there is a significant difference between the ratings given to international spine societies (NASS, Eurospine and AOSpine), with the exception of SILACO, which did not show a difference compared to local spine societies, suggesting that they have a more robust structure from the point of view of management and administration, compared to local societies (AMCICO, SBC, SAPCV and SOCCOL). They also offer more tangible educational benefits and research opportunities than the societies of the countries studied. This opens a window of opportunity to seek to improve our local societies, finding key points to contribute to our unions.REFERENCES
