ABSTRACT
Introduction: kidney transplant (RT) is the best renal replacement therapy in patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease as it offers a better quality of life for the recipient and leads to a lower socio-health cost.
Objective: to identify the factors related to delayed graft function (DGF) and to determine the functionality of the renal graft at the first and third year of follow-up at the Naval Medical Center in Mexico.
Material and methods: retrospective cohort of patients with RT carried out between 2012 and 2019. 33 records of patients with RT were analyzed. DGF and graft survival at the first and third year of follow-up were analyzed as outcomes. For graft survival, the Kaplan-Meier method was used. Logistic regression was used to predict the risk factors related to DGF with a significance p < 0.05. SPSS version 21 was used.
Results: the functionality at the first and third year was 97% and 92%, respectively. The risk factors associated with DGF were the deceased donor with an OR of 9.0 (95% CI 1.126-71.958, p = 0.038) and induction therapy with thymoglobulin OR of 10.5 (95% CI 1.558-70.762, p = 0.016).
Conclusions: the factors associated with DGF were deceased donor and induction with thymoglobulin, assuming that the risk of presenting DGF is not related to the drug, but to the context in which it is administered, since these patients were identified as high-risk patients immunological.
