ABSTRACT

Introduction: esophageal perforation by a foreign body is an unusual disease, however, its incidence has increased in the last decade. Mortality rates are secondary to septic processes as a consequence of such perforation. Several management techniques have been described, including endoscopic techniques, among these the use of esophageal clips, which can be a form of treatment in patients who fulfill certain indications. Case report: a 59-year-old female patient consulted for foreign body sensation in the throat and dysphagia after eating fish; she had no respiratory distress, and no foreign body was visualized in the pharynx. They indicated an upper digestive tract endoscopy by the gastroenterology service with foreign body extraction; they observed an esophageal perforation in the context of a stable patient with normal vital signs, the patient was treated with endoscopic metal clips, concluding the procedure without complications. Conclusions: esophageal perforation is a serious condition that, if it is not treated in time, can cause catastrophic complications, such as death. This case exemplifies how endoscopic clip intervention can be a satisfactory alternative for these situations.
