ABSTRACT

Introduction: infertility is an event that implies a crisis that generates extreme stress, both for the person and the couple. Therefore, it is necessary to assume behaviors that favor resilience in the new condition.
Objective: to characterize the process of resilience in the infertile couple during the period of artificial insemination, attended the Assisted Reproduction Center at Abel Santamaria Cuadrado General Teaching Hospital from November 2020 to February 2021.
Methods: a descriptive study was carried out, with a mixed approach where the target group included 17 couples undergoing artificial insemination. Due to sample saturation criteria, it was necessary to work with 9 of them, who attended the Reproduction Consultation between November 2020 and February 2021.
Results: four couples showed high levels of resilience, three couples in average levels and two showed very heterogeneous levels. The highest dimensions of resilience were autonomy and self-efficacy. During this process women were more resilient than men (56 %), men showed passivity and defeatist attitudes towards the process (33 %).
Conclusions: the couples presenting high levels of resilience favored the artificial insemination process from the psychological well-being achieved, inhibiting the negative emotional states that threatened the success of the process. Self-efficacy and autonomy led couples to manifest confidence and security in them, as well as in the success of the process.
