ABSTRACT

Introduction: organ donation is an altruistic act that can help improve the quality of life of people who have organ or tissue failure. Given the scarcity of organs and tissues for transplantation, it is necessary to implement strategies that promote the culture of donation. One of these is appropriate education and a positive attitude of physicians in training towards organ and tissue donation in order to create agents of change in favor of donation. Thus, the need to assess knowledge and attitude towards organ donation in the health personnel of the General Hospital "Dr. Darío Fernández Fierro" of the ISSSTE and the main objective was to evaluate the knowledge and attitude towards organ donation in the health personnel of said hospital. Material and methods: a prospective, observational, descriptive and prolective survey-type design was carried out. The study was carried out at the General Hospital "Dr. Darío Fernández Fierro", during the second quarter of 2023. The surveys were randomly applied to health personnel. The surveys consist of 34 multiple-choice questions and were obtained from a validated questionnaire on attitudes towards organ donation and transplantation. The attitude and general knowledge towards organ donation and transplantation were evaluated. The data will be collected and analyzed with the statistical package SPSS version 25. Percentages, means and standard deviation were used. A value of p < 0.05 will be considered significant. Results: when evaluating the knowledge of the subject of organ donation in the personnel, 88% had an understanding of the true meaning of brain death. Of those surveyed declared themselves in favor of the donation; since, when evaluating the effective personal availability, 78% are willing to donate their organs and tissues after their death, 4% would not do so and the undecided increased to 18%; the availability to donate is the same, when it comes to a relative, since 78% are determined to donate, the refusal increased to 22%. Conclusion: it is known that well-informed health personnel show greater interest in organ donation, which can have a positive impact on the attitude of the population and with it, an increase in the rate of donations, increasing the possibility of save more lives.
