ABSTRACT

As part of the efforts and commitment of various institutions and organizations with those patients who are waiting nationwide to receive an organ to restore their function and quality of life, several documents have described the steps to follow in the organ and tissue donation process. With the intention of having a guide and consultation instrument for the personnel who work in the Hospital of Traumatology and Orthopedics belonging to the Health Services of the State of Puebla, a bibliographic review has been carried out to establish the procedures that are performed as part of the organ and tissue donation process. The review consists of the analysis of updated recommendations issued by the Ibero-American Network-Council of Donation and Transplantation, the General Health Law, and its Regulations on Transplantation, as well as the manuals of other institutions and states in Mexico; including the guidelines of the Centro Nacional de Trasplantes (CENATRA) that have been published in the guidelines of the Donation Coordinator. The importance of the issue lies in the fact that this information is also of interest in all hospital units authorized to carry out the procurement and extraction of organs and tissues for transplant purposes.
