ABSTRACT

Throughout history, a variety of methods have been used to protect the skin from the sun. From ancient ointments to modern sunscreens, they have been developed to prevent acute and chronic skin damage caused by solar radiation. In the 19th century, ultraviolet radiation was discovered, since then more compounds have been developed to protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation and visible light. As the understanding of sun protection advances, it is hoped that more effective and safer options will be developed to preserve the health and appearance of the skin.
