ABSTRACT

Introduction. Tuberculosis is an infection caused by the group of organisms of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, it represents a high morbidity and mortality, especially in low income countries. This bacillus is mainly a pulmonary pathogen but M. tuberculosis can cause disease in any part of the body and when it occurs, it is called as extra pulmonary tuberculosis, it represents 25% of tuberculosis cases. Mycobacterium tuberculosis is responsible for 0.05 and 0.9% of cases for chronic infections of medium ear.
Clinical case. 77-year-old males with poorly controlled diabetes type 2, presented with chronic middle ear otitis complicated by skull base osteomyelitis.
Conclusions. Osteomyelitis by M. tuberculosis is a very rare manifestation of extra pulmonary tuberculosis with high mortality and associated complications.
