ABSTRACT

Background: the production of scientific knowledge in health is essentially based on research activity, and the study of publications is one of the ways to evaluate it.
Objective: to characterize the scientific publications of authors specialized in Pediatrics who worked at the “Jose Luis Miranda” University Pediatric Hospital in Villa Clara, from 2017 to 2021.
Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out at the “José Luis Miranda” Provincial Pediatric Hospital. Theoretical methods were applied: analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction, and empirical ones: review of the database on the characterization of the specialists and their scientific publications registered in the aforementioned hospital.
Results: only a minority of the specialists had publications in the analyzed period. The female sex predominated; the majority had obtained the first degree of the specialty in Pediatrics and the scientific degree of masters in science. Among the authors, the teaching rank of associate professor was the most frequent, followed by assistant professor. Most of the articles were published in national journals and their topics responded to the bank of problems of the mentioned hospital.
Conclusions: the scientific publications of Pediatric specialists are still insufficient; Despite the fact that there are spaces to publish and excellent academic and scientific preparation in their professionals, supported by their achievements in the careful care of their patients, not all of them publish their scientific results.
