ABSTRACT

Background: knowledge of the life and work of outstanding professionals in medical education is a commitment to the history of Cuban pedagogy, in addition to contributing to the formation of new generations.
Objective: to review aspects of the life and work of the Ph.D. in Pedagogy Pilar Yanes Ruiz.
Methods: a documentary research was carried out, in the year 2021, at the Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences. Theoretical level methods were used: analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and historical-logical for the study of the subject and the conformation of the methodological body of the written text; and the empirical level: the documentary analysis of historical materials as reliable sources of knowledge on this personality, key informants was also consulted.
Results: the life and work of the consulting professor and her contribution to the training of medical science professionals in the central region of Cuba were characterized, which allowed endorsing her exemplary social behavior, her firm revolutionary convictions, her high principles and values. Spiritual traits that present it as a guide for its students and constitute significant teachings for all those who know it.
Conclusions: the professionalism expressed in her affection for pedagogy and her educational work allowed her to be considered as an example to follow for the new generations.
