Lucía del Carmen Alba Pérez: fundamental pillar in the development of Cuban psychology

ABSTRACT

Background: Health psychology has its origin in Cuba and its protagonists in the central region of the country deserve to be recognized for the contributions made to this degree in medical sciences.
Objective: to identify the most relevant aspects to consider Ph D. Lucía del Carmen Alba Pérez as a fundamental pillar in the development of Cuban psychology from 1969 to current time.
Methods: a documentary research was carried out based on an extensive review, interviews with the professor under study and key informants; These methods and techniques were complemented with others of a theoretical nature such as historical logic, analysis and synthesis, and the triangulation of sources was used to arrive at the essentials of the investigated personality.
Results: Ph. D. Lucía del Carmen Alba Pérez, with her 48 years as a teacher and 50 as a psychology professional, with distinguished participation in the training of professionals in the branch, national and international events, publications and academic and scientific awards at all levels, constitutes a fundamental pillar in the development of Cuban psychology in the central region. She is part of the group of psychologists who starred in the process of founding, consolidating and developing health psychology in Cuba.
Conclusions: the most relevant aspects of the professional life of the aforementioned professor and her participation in the development of Health Psychology as a degree in medical sciences were presented.
