ABSTRACT

Introduction: In acute coronary syndrome, age represents one of the most important risk variables in terms of prognostic value. The study aims to characterize the population of patients older than 65 years diagnosed with ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome and to identify possible associations between the occurrence of non-fatal in-hospital complications and cardiovascular risk factors, infarction topography and left ventricular ejection fraction. Methods: Observational cross-sectional study with an analytical component, of all patients of geriatric age admitted from 2016 to 2020 in the Intensive Coronary Care Unit at Comandante Manuel Fajardo Surgical Clinical University Hospital, in Havana, with acute coronary syndrome with ST segment elevation. Results: The women presented high incidence of arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus, as well as significant statistical association with the occurrence of hemodynamic complications (77.3%; p = 0.013) and anterior topography infarction (62.8%; p = 0.02). Conclusions: The presence of cardiovascular complications in general was associated with hypertension history, anterior topography infarction and, in the specific case of hemodynamic complications, with female sex and left ventricular ejection fraction.
