ABSTRACT
Objective: To establish the presence of developmental groove in permanent anterior teeth in patients that for the first time attended the Dental Clinic Iztacala and Endoperiodontology Specialty Clinic in a 6 month period. It was established the direction, depth and form of the developmental grooves found. It was determined the frequency of periodontal problems as well as endodontic in relation with the developmental grooves found.
Hypothesis: If the developmental groove is a predisposing factor for dental plaque build-up then the patients that present this condition will have periodontal disease, caries and/or pulp changes.
Material and method: The design was descriptive, prospective, observational and non experimental, in relationship with the evolution of the phenomena it was recommended a transversal and correlation design.
Results: The average for the periodontal depth was 3.5 mm, it was established that most of the patients with developmental groove have localized periodontal disease. Sixty four percent had caries. Fifty one percent showed no pulp changes and 49% some change of whom 36% was reversible pulpitis, 9% irreversible pulpitis and 4% had necrosis, with this results it was established that there is a relationship with the developmental groove and pulp changes even though the percentage are not high, however it is considerable. The developmental groove was more frequent in the female gender, and it is present in a low average of the studied sample. The higher presence was in the central portion of lateral teeth.
Conclusion: Based with the correlation test of Pearson the developmental groove is a predisposing factor for caries, periodontal disease and pulp changes.
