ABSTRACT
In the rotavirus infection in infants usually associated to fever vomits, diarrhea and intolerance to lactose; however the lactase deficiency it is associated to other diseases. In this report are review some of the chemical characteristics of the carbohydrates and the enzymes implied in the hydrolysis of them, the morphological characteristics of the intestinal mucous, the enzymes related in the disaccharides hydrolysis, and other particularities of the enterocytes. Emphasis is done in the physiopathological aspects that explain the lactase deficiency an also in the clinical manifestations of lactose intolerance and the procedures in order to confirm the clinical suspicion and the medical and dietary handling of these children with lactase deficiency.
