Aneurysm at the apex of the basilar artery as a cause of subarachnoid hemorrhage. Case report

ABSTRACT

Cerebral aneurysm is a frequent pathology within arteriovenous malformations and is characterized by dilation of the arterial walls of the encephalic circulation. Intracranial aneurysms are present in approximately 2 % of the general population. Basilar artery aneurysms represent approximately 5-8 % of all intracranial aneurysms and approximately 50 % of posterior circulation aneurysms with the objective to describe the aneurysm at the apex of the basilar artery as a cause of subarachnoid hemorrhage and its course of action. We present a 72-year-old patient with a SAH and in the angiography, presented a saccular aneurysm in the apex of the basilar artery, with rupture as a cause of subarachnoid hemorrhage. The clinical and radiological evaluation for its surgical intervention is of utmost importance, as well as identifying any hemorrhage that identifies the rupture or not of the aneurysm.
