ABSTRACT

Objective: To determine the prevalence of hearing loss in a sample of patients with chronic renal failure undergoing renal replacement therapy in a population belonging to the outpatient clinic of the Nephrology service at the ISSEMyM Toluca Medical Center, Estado de Mexico.
Materials and Methods: An observational, cross sectional and analytical study was carried out from June 2022 to March 2023 on a beneficiary population who attended the outpatient consultation of Audiology, Otorhinolaryngology and Nephrology at the ISSEMyM Toluca Medical Center, Estado de Mexico, with chronic renal failure in renal replacement therapy.
Results: There were included 178 patients; bilateral sensorineural hearing loss was the most frequent diagnosis (65%); prevalence of hearing loss in general in this study was of 26.4%, indicating a relatively high association of hearing loss with chronic kidney disease.
Conclusions: Patients with chronic renal failure in replacement therapy have hearing loss; the most frequent is bilateral sensorineural hearing loss.
