ABSTRACT
Medical certification in Mexico is a key process that ensures competence and quality in medical care, both surgical and non-surgical. By the National Regulatory Committee of Medical Specialty Councils (CONACEM) and the 47 councils that make it up, certification became mandatory in 2005, requiring continuous evaluation every five years. However, there is still a low recognition of its importance, with 46% of doctors not currently certified in Orthopedics, especially in the public health system. Although the process is rigorous and conducted by peers, it faces criticism and challenges in terms of equity and access. Certification is a requirement for hospital work privileges, underscoring its relevance. Increasing advocacy and access to certification information can improve rates of board-certified physicians, giving patients confidence in the quality of care. Maintaining current certification is essential to ensure ethical and responsible medical practice.REFERENCES
