ABSTRACT

Introduction: lichen planus is a skin condition of unknown cause, which can be triggered by situations of stress or nervous tension. One of its clinical variants is inverse pigmentosum lichen planus, located in the folds of the skin.
Objective: to present a case of inverse pigmentosum lichen planus, refractory to conventional treatments, which was treated with good results with magnetotherapy as a complementary treatment.
Case presentation: 30-year-old male patient, skin phototype IV, subjected to sustained stress, who came to a dermatological consultation due to maculopapules and brownish-violet erythematous plaques, of variable size in large folds. The diagnosis was clinical, confirmed by histopathology. Magnetotherapy, due to its sedative, anti-inflammatory and cellular repair effect, as well as its influence on the immune system, was an effective complementary treatment, providing the patient with regression of lesions and evident clinical improvement in a short period of time.
Conclusions: inverse pigmentosum lichen planus is a rare clinical variant of lichen planus, difficult to treat, which had a favorable response to the indication of magnetotherapy, as a complementary therapeutic option available in each health area, so its use is recommended in the treatment of this dermatological condition. Due to the rarity of the condition, it is considered necessary to carry out investigations of case series where the therapy is applied as a complementary treatment.
