ABSTRACT

The disease is a deep subcutaneous mycosis, which is caused by different black dymorphic fungi species from the Hypomycetos gender and Dematiacea family. These organisms live as saprophytes in the soil. In Latin American countries the most frequent species found are Fonsecaea pedrosoi in tropical endemic and humid subtropical areas; and Clamidophora carrionii in dry climates where xerophytic vegetation predominates
