ABSTRACT
Physicians must stay at the forefront of knowledge for its application in patient care, therefore, they must maintain an updated certification. Medical certification assures that a doctor is making continuous efforts in medical education and can provide high-quality medical care. Because of these reasons, medical certifications are considered an essential and crucial process that benefits society. Being a certified orthopedic surgeon offers society certainty that the physician owns a high-level update, which guarantees better outcomes in decision-making and ensures that the physician has the necessary expertise and ability to offer specialized quality care while remaining consistently updated. The Comité Normativo Nacional de Consejos de Especialidades Médicas (CONACEM) regulates and grants suitability to the 47 medical specialty councils that comply with the standards to act as a collegiate body to certify medical specialists by the Ley General de Salud and the guidelines set by Secretaría de Salud for its operation. The Mexican Council of Orthopedics and Traumatology (CMOT) does not have the authority to certify master´s degrees, doctorates, subspecialties, or high-specialty courses, granting only recognition with points to specialists who kept actualized through courses and conferences, as long as they are recognized by educational and health institutions. The CMOT remains at the forefront of ensuring compliance with quality standards in medical care related to academic activities in orthopedics, providing certifications of excellence, and guaranteeing the competence of all orthopedic surgeons nationwide based on global standards, therefore, every patient has the right and access to seek a certified orthopedic surgeon.REFERENCES
