ABSTRACT

Introduction: Pharyngitis is defined as inflammation of the mucosa and submucosa of the pharynx; it is classified according to its evolution as acute and chronic; the diagnosis is made through the typical or atypical symptoms reported by the patient and through diagnostic aids; the initial management is symptomatic. Gastroesophageal reflux refers to the passage of gastric contents into the esophagus, due to the alteration of the lower esophageal sphincter, which produces the release of proinflammatory cytokines that generate symptoms in the patient. Chronic pharyngitis due to GERD disease is a condition that compromises the health and quality of life of many patients, overlooking its diagnosis and consequently an untimely treatment.
