ABSTRACT
Introduction: dexmedetomidine is an alpha-2 adrenergic drug with analgesic and sedative properties. It is administered intranasally, as an alternative for the management of immediate post-surgical pain, in patients undergoing abdominal hysterectomy. Objective: to determine the postoperative analgesic effectiveness of premedication with dexmedetomidine intranasally at a dose of 1 μg/kg/weight thirty minutes before abdominal hysterectomy. Material and methods: clinical trial, controlled, randomized. At the Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital. 50 patients scheduled for abdominal hysterectomy were included. The first group was administered intranasal dexmedetomidine at a dose of 1 mg/kg, the second group was not administered. During the post-surgical period, an assessment is carried out with the analog numerical scale (ENA) every 5 minutes. Results: in the premedicated group, 22 patients reported mild pain, one moderate and two severe. In the group without premedication, 12 patients reported mild pain, seven reported moderate pain, and six reported severe pain. The group premedicated with dexmedetomidine obtained a χ2 with a critical value of 9.441, the result presented bilateral asymptotic significance of 0.009, affirming with 95% confidence and with a statistically significant result. Conclusions: decrease in pain in patients premedicated with dexmedetomidine.REFERENCES
