ABSTRACT
Introduction: spinal pathologies are a common reason for hospital visits to specialists as they cause symptoms such as weakness and sensory disturbances, often requiring surgical treatment. However, few reports have examined the main reasons for visits to private hospitals in Mexico.
Objective: to understand the reasons for admission due to spine-related pathologies in adults at Hospital Angeles Mocel over the past decade.
Material and methods: an observational, cross-sectional, descriptive, epidemiological, retrospective study based on records of patients admitted to Hospital Angeles Mocel for spine pathology over the past decade. After the research ethics committee approved the project, relevant information was extracted from the trauma admission census. Statistical analysis was performed with descriptive tests in SPSS v.26 for Mac.
Results: during the study period, 952 persons were admitted to the hospital with spine pathology.
Conclusions: a peak in admissions was observed among those aged 31 to 40 years, coinciding with a stage prone to significant accidents. The typical hospital stay was one to four days, highlighting the importance of specialized care and adapting to the needs of the population treated.
