Key words:

peroneal tendon dislocation, lateral ankle pain.

Peroneal tendon dislocation is rare, described in 1803 by Monteggia, and characterized by lateral ankle pain. It occurs in young athletes with chronic ankle instability. The injury is associated with activities like ballet, skiing, football, basketball, rugby, and gymnastics. Since conservative treatment has a high failure rate, treatment of peroneal tendon dislocation is surgical, with repair of retinaculum and trimalleolar sulcus deepening, increasing the containment capacity of the tendons.
