The synovial cyst (SC) corresponds to a unilobed or multilobulated cystic mass caused by herniation of the synovium, with fluid inside and communication or not with the joint; they constitute about 60% of chronic swellings affecting the hand and wrist between 20 and 50 years of age, predominating 3:1 in women. On ultrasound, SC appears as an anechoic, rounded, or ovoid structure with echogenic walls; needle aspiration (with high recurrence) is effective in 50% of patients. After surgical resection, recurrence rates vary from 5 to 15%.
