ABSTRACT
Introduction: traumatic brain injury is one of the diseases with the greatest disability. The National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery of Mexico City reported a series of cases, in which they documented a diagnosis of non-convulsive status epilepticus through the Salzburg consensus criteria modified in 2015 in patients with traumatic brain injury representing 1.5%.
Objective: the frequency of non-convulsive status epilepticus was analyzed in patients with traumatic brain injury who were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
Material and methods: ambispective, observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study.
Results: 24 patients were included, reporting a frequency of 41.7% of non-convulsive status epilepticus in patients with acute brain injury, with wakefulness without consciousness being the most frequent disorder of consciousness.
Conclusion: in patients with traumatic brain injury, a higher frequency of nonconvulsive status epilepticus and a relationship with disorders of consciousness were found, which impacts the functional prognosis of patients.
