ABSTRACT
The use of the Point-of-Care Ultrasound model, often referred to as POCUS, to guide
invasive procedures in pediatrics, has led to a paradigm shift in healthcare by allowing
immediate visualization and interpretation of images at the patient's bedside. Initially
utilized in adults, this technique has gained significant acceptance among pediatricians,
improving the precision and safety of various procedures. The use of POCUS has been
endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and various critical care and pediatric
emergency associations, which has significantly contributed to its expansion. In
Mexico, its adoption is rapidly progressing despite the challenges faced in its utilization.
The aim of this narrative review is to describe the evidence on the effectiveness and
safety of POCUS, highlighting its impact on improving clinical outcomes and reducing
complications in invasive procedures.
