ABSTRACT

Introduction: Intussusception (II) is a potentially serious obstructive disease in infants and children under 2 years of age. Mesenteric adenitis is an inflammation of the lymph nodes of the intestine, which affects children older than 3 years and among its causes are acute appendicitis and infections. Report a case of II in infrequent location in association with secondary mesenteric adenitis.
Case presentation: 7 years old male, with a medical history of 14 hours of evolution starting with intermittent colicky abdominal pain of diffuse and gradual onset, later migrating to the right iliac fossa, febrile symptoms of 38. 5ºC, nausea and emesis; suggestive of appendicitis with 7 points out of 9 on the Alvarado scale, however, diagnostic laparoscopy showed seven segments of II in the small intestine; incidental appendectomy was performed and in the immediate postoperative period right basal pneumonia was diagnosed.
Conclusions: Seven intestinal segments were involved, being infrequent the multiple occurrence, as well as its location in ileo-ileal and jejuno-jejunal sites, in addition to ileo-colic. It is also related to community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) due to the finding of secondary mesenteric adenitis.
