ABSTRACT

Since the discovery of the microscope and the recognition of microorganisms as the cause of diseases, it has begun a new challenge for every scientist. Firstly, trying to identify these agents and then facing the challenge that consists of finding out the relationships that facilitate the spreading and the development of the disease in order to be able to set up diffusion measures to establish the control of these mentioned diseases. The role of the immunologist in this process has been very important, since it has been possible to describe the response of the immune system in front of the entrance of these microorganisms and find opportunities for the development of these strategies that have ended with the very important vaccination campaigns. There has been a great success with the complete eradication of very important diseases, such as smallpox. As follows, we will review the specific immune response when facing virus and helminthes.
