ABSTRACT
Introduction: orofacial fissures comprise one of the most prevalent malformations worldwide. They can have different morphology and extension along the palate, lip and nasal cavity, so their treatment can vary from the sole management of soft tissues to the management of hard tissues in different interventions or phases over time. Thus, in the management of hard tissues, the use of bone grafts may be necessary to facilitate the comprehensive rehabilitation of the patient and the impact on it, from every point of view is less.
Objective: to analyze the different types of bone graft for the surgical management of lip palatine alveolus cleft.
Material and methods: it consists of a literature review study, where an electronic search was used using keywords such as cleft lip and palate, cleft palate, bone graft, autologous graft, in the search engines, PubMed, Cochrane, SciELO and Google Scholar, the inclusion criterion was complete articles from the last five years.
Results: in the literature it is reported that depending on the extent and type of cleft palate, its surgical treatment is defined, and that if the placement of a bone graft is necessary (many are used), the one with the best prognosis being autograft.
Conclusions: the autologous graft is the most widely used and most effective in the surgical treatment of cleft palates, especially when there is alveolar compromise, since tissue regeneration is much more viable.
