Isolation and Identification of steroid compounds from Solanum viarum Dunal fruits

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Solanum viarum Dunal is a plant native to South America, mainly in Brazil, with common names such as: tropical soda apple, joá-bravo, arrebenta -cavalo and joá-amarelo. It belongs to the Solanaceae family, is annual, herbaceous and it reproduces by seed.Objective: To carry out the phytochemical study of Solanum viarum Dunal fruits in order to find new steroidal compounds.
Methods: The species was collected on the way to the waterfall on BR 364, Porto Velho-Brazil. The solid-liquid method was used for the preparation of the ethanolic extracts, through the use of Soxhlet apparatus. A chromatographic study was carried out with the strata obtained, using patterns of compounds isolated from other species of the Solanum genus.
Results: Five steroidal compounds were identified through chromatographic and spectroscopic studies.
Conclusions: The isolation and identification were possible for Solasodine, Solasodiene, Diosgenin, Diosgenin Diene and Chlorogenin steroidal compounds.
