Nursing on the Face of a Pediatric Patient ’s Death through Carper’s Patterns

ABSTRACT

Introduction. This paper chronicles the professional’s experience in providing nursing care in the terminal stage through palliative care, drawing upon the theoretical framework of Barbara Carper. The present document offers an exercise that enables the identification, comprehension, and critical analysis of such circumstances, with the objective of enhancing the quality of care and ensuring its provision in a humanized manner to individuals in the terminal phase of life. Development. The fundamental objective of palliative care is to address the multifaceted needs of patients experiencing suffering, encompassing not only the physical aspects but also the psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual dimensions of their existence. The overarching goal of palliative care is to facilitate a peaceful death through a comprehensive and holistic approach. In a terminal illness, each patient encounters a unique form of suffering, necessitating the delivery of customized care by healthcare professionals. Conclusion. The scope of the nursing role extends beyond the provision of medical care, encompassing the establishment of a connection with the multidisciplinary team and the family. The professional’s role is to facilitate tranquility and harmony for the patient during this transition. Nursing functions are not solely based on the medical role, but also on the humanistic role.
