ABSTRACT
Introduction. Yersinia frederiksenii is a bacterium that can cause intestinal infections in humans and rarely extraintestinal infections. Yersinia frederiksenii has been isolated from stool samples and lessly from blood and sputum.Clinical Case. A case of a 73-year-old male is reported who had a urinary tract infection and who, after his hospitalization, developed sepsis where Yersinia frederiksenii was isolated from biological samples of urine and blood, requiring management. in emergency room and internal medicine services. As a background, the patient presented infection of hemodialysis catheter confirmed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus receiving pharmacological treatment erradicating the presence of both patogens. The patient’s evolution was unsatisfactory, leading to death despite antimicrobial treatment.
Discussion. The immunosuppression presented by the patient facilitated the infection by Yersinia frederiksenii. Recommendations for diagnostic and treatment are made. The present case is the first report of urosepsis caused by Yersinia frederiksenii.
