Physical and psychological sequelae of coronavirus 2019 in medical students at Pan American University

ABSTRACT
Introduction: SARS-CoV-2 is a virus of the Coronavirus family; these are characterized by the shape, which resembles a crown. Coronavirus 2019 has affected the health, economy and sociability of millions of people. Objectives: to characterize the physical and psychological sequelae of coronavirus 2019 in first-year medical students at Pan American University and family members who were infected with COVID-19. Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 74 students and 21 cases of family members who were infected with COVID-19, in the first semester of the year 2021 of the Pan American University of Guatemala. The ethics of scientific research were complied with. Variables were operationalized to achieve the objective. Techniques and procedures were used to obtain information, processing, analysis, discussion and synthesis. Results: physical sequelae were predominant, with 61.9% functioning of the pulmonary capacity, which affected 33.3% of the female sex. The psychological sequelae with the highest prevalence was stress in 52.4% of the population, which affected 33.3% of the male sex. The age group most affected by the physical and psychological sequelae of COVID-19 was under 30 years of age. Conclusions: the disease can cause sequelae to those who contract it, so it is necessary to seek professional help at the first moments it is needed. The physical and psychological sequelae of COVID-2019 in medical students of the Pan American University of Guatemala and family members were characterized.
