Adverse effects of COVID-19 protective equipment at Panamerican University, Guatemala

ABSTRACT
Introduction: in recent years we have been living with the virus, COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2. The adverse effects of the use of personal protective equipment against the virus derive in health problems that can affect acutely or chronically. Objective: to identify the adverse effects of protective measures against COVID-19 in medical students of the Panamerican University in Guatemala. Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on the adverse effects of prolonged use of personal protective equipment in a population of 71 first-year medical students of the Faculty of Medical Health Sciences of the Panamerican University in Guatemala in the period June-December 2021. The variables sex, use of masks, alcohol gel, antibacterial, face shields and type of masks were analyzed. A pre-validated survey was applied to collect information, which was summarized in absolute and relative frequencies. The information was showed in two-entry tables. The information was processed in SPSS software and ECXEL sheet. Scientific research ethics were complied with. Result: the female population was the most affected. The predominant adverse effects were acne, skin irritation, headache and eyestrain. The cloth mask was the most preferred. Conclusion: Adverse effects of protective measures against COVID-19 were identified in medical students of the Panamerican University of Guatemala.REFERENCES
