ABSTRACT

Introduction: Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition. Laser therapy offers beneficial effects that are appreciated during the application and permanently. Objective: to evaluate the therapeutic effects of laser therapy in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. Methods: an analytical case-control, prospective, longitudinal, analytical study was performed in the Dermatology service of the Salvador Allende Hospital, between September 2017 - August 2018, in a universe of 100 patients diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis. Variables were operationalized to output the objective. Ethical principles of human research were taken into account. Results: 27% of the patients were between 20 and 29 years old. Sixty-five percent were women. Sixty-one percent had skin phototype III, with evolution time between 6 and 10 years in 81%. Ninety-six percent of the lesions were on the scalp. In 39% of the patients the skin lesions were between 1 and 5 centimeters, with pruritus in 88%. Forty-four percent had a clinical diagnosis of pityriasis capitis and 63% had a histopathological diagnosis of chronic. In more than 52% of those who underwent laser treatment, the clinical and histological response was cure and in 67.5% of those treated, cure was achieved in the short term. The laser was satisfactory in more than 95% of the patients. Conclusions: The therapeutic effects of laser in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis were evaluated. The therapeutic effect was satisfactory in almost all patients who underwent low power laser treatment.
