Bioethics in the faculty of medical sciences at the Davinci university of Guatemala

ABSTRACT

Introduction: medicine is a science that deals with human beings, that is why it is important to have adequate knowledge of all aspects of bioethics involved in dealing with human beings. Objective: to determine the knowledge of bioethics of students in the faculty of medicine at the Davinci University in Guatemala. Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on a population of 97 students. The information was collected from a survey validated by the authors before being sent by e-mail. Multiple choice questions divided into sections related to bioethics and bioethical cases were used. The information was processed using excel and the results were graphed for better understanding. Results: 58.8% of the students read the entire code of ethics of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Guatemala. 53.6% answered that the doctor has a commitment to cure and provide an accurate result, 95% decided not to issue reports or certificates lacking veracity, 92.8% answered that the doctor has responsibility for the patient's life in the event that an informed patient does not agree to an examination. Ninety-five per cent considered that learning about bioethics should be used in a problem-based way. 64.9% answered that bioethics should be taught throughout the student's training. Conclusions: it was determined the level of knowledge of bioethics among students at the medical school of the Davinci University in Guatemala.
