Angolan students in the eradication of Aedes Aegypti. ''Wilfredo Pérez'' Polyclinic, 2016

ABSTRACT

Introduction: the elimination of Aedes aegypti has proven to be a complex task. This paper summarizes the results of the participation of 20 Angolan Health Information Systems students in an intensive focal program for the eradication of the vector. Objective: to describe the work carried out by Angolan students during the intensive focal program at the "Wilfredo Pérez" Polyclinic for the eradication of the Aedes Aegypti vector. Methods: a retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on the Angolan students who participated in the focal intensive. The variables studied were: dwellings visited, educational talks given, deposits killed and destroyed, and population visited. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the results of the task carried out by the students and the ethical principles for biomedical research were complied with. Results: 94.4% of the dwellings in the universe were visited, with a per capita per student of 71 dwellings. A total of 1,285 educational talks were given, 929 tanks were sprayed and 320 were destroyed. Two cases of fever were detected. The integration of the students into the intensive focus was a positive experience. Conclusions: the work carried out by the Angolan students contributed to health education and had a favorable impact on the control and eradication of Aedes aegypti, a vector of arbovirosis in the area of the Wilfredo Pérez Polyclinic.
