Penile and scrotum reconstruction after necrotizing fasciitis

ABSTRACT

Necrotizing fasciitis is considered a rare entity, but when it appears it involves great danger to life, as well as a destructive condition in the soft tissues. Therefore, those affected almost always need to be reconstructed by plastic surgeons. The general objective of this work is to present the results of the reconstructive surgical treatment applied to a patient treated due to necrotizing fasciitis with the technique of two flaps from the inner thighs. We present a case with criteria for reconstruction by plastic surgery that was treated at the Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone, Botswana, between 2018 and 2020. The clinical conditions were diabetes mellitus and malnutrition. In conclusion, the scrotal coating with flaps of the inner thigh offered good aesthetic and functional results in the treated area.
