ABSTRACT
Rupture of corpora cavernosa, also called penile fracture (faux pas du coït, in French, misstep of intercourse), is a
condition treated as a urological emergency. Trauma may occur with a unilateral or bilateral rupture of the corpus
cavernosum, injury to the spongy body, and/or urethral injury.
The objective of this research is to present an infrequent case of fracture of the penis: it is a patient of 42 years old,
who goes to the emergency room because during sexual intercourse he noticed a noise, as if the penis "broke", after
which he experienced detumescence, pain, edema and dorsal incurvation of the limb. He is taken to the operating
room and an injury to the spongy body is confirmed.
It is concluded that the fracture of the penis, and especially the rupture of the spongy body, is a rare entity. Immediate
repair by surgery ensures a shorter hospital stay and decreases the rate of complications.
