ABSTRACT
Perineal median raphe cysts are uncommon congenital lesions in medical practice, being particularly rare during childhood. In their etiopathogenesis they are considered defects of embryologic development and constitute an uncommon type of dysembryoplasia. The aim of this study is to present a case of median raphe cyst and to comment on embryological aspects, diagnosis and therapeutic options. The patient was a 7-year-old boy with an asymptomatic lesion, extending from the scrotum to the anus, of 3 years of evolution. Surgical excision of the cyst was performed with histopathological confirmation. Median raphe cysts are rare, benign, and the treatment consists of surgical removal when they cause symptoms or for aesthetic reasons.
