ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate the expression of Toll-like receptor 2 and 4 (TLR2 and TLR4) and their relationship with platelet alterations in Yucatecan patiens with type 2 diabetes.Materials and Methods: Comparative cross-sectional study was done from January 1st 2020 to October 4th 2021, which included type 2 diabetes patients and controls from Yucatan, who underwent blood cytometry, glucose quantification and lipid profile, platelet aggregation and activation, and the expression of TLR2 and TLR4 in platelets.
Results: There were included 34 patients with type 2 diabetes and 33 control sub- jects, Blood glucose was higher in patients than controls, but no differences were seen in platelet aggregation or activation. TLR2 mean fluorescense intensity (MFI) showed a correlation with platelet aggregation in diabetic (p=0.204) and control group (p=0.00328). Platelet aggregation time was only correlated with expression percentage of TLR2 and TLR4 (p=0.0309 and p=0.00070, respectively) in the control group.
Conclusiones: TLR2 and TLR4 could be related with platelet alterations in the Yucatecan population.
