ABSTRACT

Introduction: The treatment of postoperative pain is an issue that should involve all professionals who perform surgical procedures, so we must reflect on our responsibility and look for the best treatment alternative. Among these are NSAID analgesic drugs; However, its possible side effects make it necessary to use non-pharmacological techniques such as the laser beam. Objective: Determine the analgesic efficacy of the laser beam versus ibuprofen in the treatment of post-tooth extraction pain. Material and methods: Clinical trial carried out on 50 patients from 18 to 70 years of age of both sexes who underwent tooth extraction, being randomly assigned into two groups. Group I received laser beam, group II received ibuprofen, using the visual analogue scale to determine the intensity of pain at 4, 8, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours postoperatively. Results: there was a significant difference in favor of the laser group 12 hours after tooth extraction. Conclusions: Both treatment alternatives are effective.
