Use of cariostatic agents as preventive measure in carious lesions.

ABSTRACT
Dental caries is one of the most common diseases in the world and its development is related to the abundant consumption of fermentable carbohydrates and the presence of biofilm associated with poor oral hygiene. These phenomena must coexist for a sufficient period of time to generate the loss of minerals on the surface of the tooth. The demineralization processes of the dental structure as consequence of the acid products generated by bacteria is the main cause of damage to the tooth that is evident in its beginnings as white spot, and that evolves into cavitation if the demineralization process is not stopped. Until a few years ago, the treatment of caries was carried out until the tooth was already cavitated, eliminating the lesion and filling the defect, however, today it is known that it is possible to intervene in caries from its beginning and thus prevent its evolution. The aim of this article is to carry out a bibliographical research on non-invasive treatments through the use of cariostatics agents.
